Teddie’s Hot Spiced Wine
(German Glühwein)
The first time Ken & I drank this was when we were teaching overseas in England & we went skiing on a December vacation in Austria & took an evening sleigh ride in the snow. It warmed us up really fast!Single recipe makes about 3 cups1 Bottle Red Wine (I used Cabernet Sauvignon but any wine, not too dry, would work)
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. whole cloves
1/2 cup brown sugar (add more if you like it sweeter)
2 oranges (cut up into slices & squeeze most of the juice out leaving them in the wine to marinate)Heat wine only in medium size sauce pan. DO NOT BOIL! After it starts to simmer, stir in spices, sugar, & orange sections, making sure you cut off all the rind. Simmer for 15 minutes. Then strain out the whole spices & orange sections. Keep warm by pouring it into a crock pot to serve or pour into a hot carafe or thermos to drink later. Tastes great on a cold afternoon or evening! Can be made ahead & microwaved in a cup for single servings. Store leftovers in the refrigerator (if you have any left over)

Teddie's Homemade Salsa
This recipe can be cut in half for a smaller amount. It makes about a quart but seems to disappear fast. I used Tupperware Chipotle seasoning but I'm sure another brand would work just fine. Enjoy!1 Bunch fresh Cilantro
1 medium white or yellow onion
2 cloves fresh garlic
1-2 Tbl. fresh or bottled lime or lemon juice
1 15 oz. can peeled & diced tomatoes
1-2 Tbl. Chipotle seasoning
Garlic powder to tastePut chopped cilantro, quartered onion, minced garlic, & remaining ingredients into food processor & blend to medium thickness or finer, as desired. Pour into bowl & serve fresh with chips. Can be stored in the refrigerator for at least a week.
