(509)327-7220
Ken Bell is the event coordinator for an outdoor mountain biking event called Spokane Trailquest. Ken recently retired from teaching high school physical education, social studies, and AVID for the Department of Defense at three different Air Force bases in England. He taught for 30 years, was the athletic director, and coached various sports. He is very experienced with coordinating athletic events.
While living in England, Ken enjoyed cycling in the Yorkshire Dales and completed in mountain bike orienteering events. It was so popular in England that the event directors had to close down the entries after 500 were entered. It has become the fastest growing sport in Europe.
There have been a total of 18 events thus far over the three years that Spokane Trailquest has existed and there will be another three events in August, September, and October.
Trailquest is a mountain bike orienteering event where the competitors have to navigate on a bike with a map finding as many locations as they can punching a score sheet at each station.
Trailquest is a sport for all ages and sexes. You don't have to be super fit or young to do well as planning and navigation are equally critical. All you need is a mountain bike that is in working order and a helmet. A map will be provided for you at the starting line.
It's a great way to get fit, have fun, and explore Spokane's parks and surrounding areas. Register ahead of time by downloading the entry form, fill it out, and bring it with you on the day of each event. The entry fee is $20 per race or $55 for the series of three. A yellow biking jersey will be awarded to the overall champion in each age group at the final ride of each series. Come out and enjoy the fun!
